Workshops

Workshop Leaders Needed!

We are always in need of adult workshop leaders! We invite and encourage high school teachers and all others in the theatre and education communities to conceive and present workshops both as a form of personal and professional development and as a genuine service to our students. The success of the Festival depends upon your contribution.

Attendees ask for more tech-oriented workshops each year, so we particularly encourage those of you with technical backgrounds to share your knowledge!

The workshop application deadline is October 24, 2008.

Workshop Guidelines

  1. Workshops should involve participation; we want the students to be doing as much as possible. Demonstrations and participatory exercises are essential to the workshop program. Please think "hands-on".
  2. Workshops should be practical and realistic; try to avoid lengthy theoretical discussions.
  3. Workshops should be relevant to the needs of the participants. Leaders should be aware of the wide variance in maturity, experience levels, and ages of the potential participants. Workshops can be directed towards students, teachers, or both.
  4. All workshops take place on the Friday or Saturday of Festival. Workshops can be offered as two sessions of 1 hour and 10 minutes each or one or two sessions of 2 hours and 30 minutes each. Two 1 hour and 10 minute sessions work best for most workshops in the Festival schedule.

Workshop leaders may earn 1-4 hours of graduate credit through Illinois State University or CPDUs through the Illinois Theatre Association. Note that there is no pay involved in presenting a workshop.
